Wordstock Festival

I read at Portland WordStock Festival yesterday with Eric Barmack, author of The Virgin. We read in a quiet room in The Oregon Convention Center.

It was a quiet audience which was kind of scary. The man who introduced me asked if they had any questions and everyone shifted in their seats. But the conference itself was very much like Seattle’s bankrupt and now defunct Bookfest — booths, panels, and reading spaces arranged in a massive convention space. However, unlike Seattle’s old Bookfest, this festival was full of independent and small presses such as the Portland collective PIPE (Portland Independent Publisher’s Experiment where I was able to buy Kevin Sampsell’s new book of very short fictions “Beautiful Blemish.” There was also the activity of literary heavy-weights reading in the evenings, and so the entire event, like Bookfest in structure, was infused with activity, commerce, and hundreds of literary readings.
